Butterfly!

This is a mixed-media work combining drawing, coloring using oil pastels and watercolor pencils, painting using acrylic paint and forming exercises using old newspapers.

It took me just an hour to assemble everything: roll the newspapers and paint them to resemble a branch of a tree, draw my butterfly on an old newspaper which is then formed and cut by Lui, which I later stuffed with rolled newspaper cut-outs, painted with acrylic paints, and assembled on an illustration board which I colored using oil pastels. Then, using colored art paper, I made several butterfly figures and decorated them using oil pastels. I also made leaves and the sun which I colored with pastels and then Lui helped me assemble everything on the board!

Two Birds, Two Works!

These are two interpretations of a bird in a tree. It is an exercise in combining form and different materials. It is a painting and a sculpture combined!

On this plate, I used old newspapers for the tree branches which I made by rolling the newspapers and later painting it using acrylic paint. Then I made separate drawings of the different parts of the bird like wings, face and beak on colored paper. Lui cut these colored papers for me which I then assembled and pasted to form the bird. I also made a drawing of the sun which Lui cut for me again and later assembled on a colored cartolina. I added leaves and other decorations to complete this mixed media painting!

This second plate is the same bird but this time I only used oil pastels on cartolina.

I made one drawing on two separate plates!

Mixed Media Geometrics!

I love drawing different shapes and coloring them using different materials like colored pencils, oil pastels and acrylic paints. For this session, I combine sculpture work with my painting. I used old newspapers to draw and form my shapes. My teacher Lui cut the drawings I made on the newspapers and helped me insert folded newspapers inside the drawings to form 3-D shapes. I made a frame on a board using the same drawings as my design. Then I assembled these sculpture drawings on this board and later painted it using acrylic paint.
